Craterellus cinereus var. multiplex Smith Fruit body 1-4cm across, basically funnel-shaped becoming deeply perforated; sooty black; smooth becoming scaly. Fertile undersurface folded at first, then becoming more gill-like. Stem 20-40 x 3-8mm individually, central, compound; grayish; smooth. Flesh thin, tough. Taste very mildly disagreeable. Spores ellipsoid, 8-11 X 5-6µ. Habitat in compound clusters on the ground in mixed woods. Found in the Great Lakes area. Season August-September. Edibility not known.
